FRIDAY APRIL 2

Great job everyone for your fantastic performance at the Good Friday Service! All your hard work paid off. Your expressions and movement were all beautiful to watch. I'm so proud of all of you.

Please note that there are NO OTHER PLANNED CREATIVE WORSHIP performances for the term. If there is another opportunity for us to perform, I will let you all know.

WHAT IS CREATIVE WORSHIP EXACTLY?

CREATIVE WORSHIP: RISING AGAINST COMPLACENCY

(Written by: Amelia Lee)

IT IS COMMON IN US ALL…
Admit it. We've all struggled with it. Staying awake in a traditional worship service where all the songs have a bunch of 'thees' and 'thous' in every other line is next to impossible. I mean, how do you truly connect with God if you're getting whip lash from your head nodding backwards and forwards throughout the service? The reality is, more and more people, most notably teens and young adults, are walking away from the church because the idea of God is no longer real or relevant to them. In fact, most teens that are raised through the church choose not to come back once they've finished high school. Being a Christian is no longer, or never was to begin with, a part of their identity.

REAL & RELEVANT: THE RISE OF A NEW FORM OF WORSHIP
The Creative Worship movement is fueled by the rise of young people from all over the world that are tired of being restricted in their act of worship. By using their own forms of artistic expression, these pioneers are pushing against the "usual" church experiences of dull and disconnected singing and service. Using dance, percussion, creative dialogue, live art, poetry and even rap, more and more young people are giving the idea of church a second chance as they experience and connect with God in ways that are personal and relevant to them.

Okay sure, maybe the aunties and uncles in our church may not understand how using arm and leg movements to express our love for Jesus doesn't some how look like we're losing it in the pew, but it is this wave of Creative Worship that is reconnecting a lost generation with the Truth…and that, is truly freeing.

What we will be doing on the TYF Creative Worship Team

Since this is TYF's first ever Creative Worship Team, we will be starting off with mostly choreography. We will be telling stories as we move and dance alongside the lyrics (or sometimes not) to a worship or Christian based song. (Later on in the year, we can experiment with other forms of artistry found within the fellowship, such as rapping.)

YOU DON'T NEED TO KNOW HOW TO DANCE TO DO CREATIVE WORSHIP! Some the best Creative Worshipers I know have never taken a dance class in their life. It is more about expressing a story in your face and body.

This one has more complex choreography:

This one is to "Everything" by Lifehouse. It's a great story and usually really hits home for a lot of young people.
